About incense fragrances
Frankincense, also known as Olibanum, comes from the resin of Boswellia trees, which are primarily grown in arid regions such as the Horn of Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and parts of India. Used since ancient times, it is associated with spiritual and religious practices around the world, thanks to its enveloping aromatic plumes.
Frankincense possesses a unique olfactory signature, both mystical and complex. It exudes resinous, woody, and slightly spicy notes, sometimes accompanied by a balsamic sweetness. When burned, it releases a smoky aroma, creating an ambiance that is both meditative and soothing. Depending on its origin and harvesting techniques, nuances can vary: Omani Frankincense, for example, is known for its brighter, citrusy notes, while Somalia Frankincense offers deeper, amber facets.
Frankincense is primarily used as a base note, bringing richness and depth to compositions. It pairs perfectly with materials such as patchouli, amber, sandalwood, or leather accords. Its scent can evoke warm and intimate atmospheres, creating a unique olfactory depth. Whether intensifying a warm scent or adding a touch of timeless elegance, frankincense remains an essential and admired material in perfumery.
