Tuberose: Cultivation, Origin…

Tuberose is a flower native to Mexico. Today tuberose is mainly cultivated in India, but also in the south of France, in the Grasse region. Tuberose is grown for its fragrant white flowers. Tuberose is mainly cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions of the world.
Tubers are planted in early spring for summer blooming. The best time to cultivate the flowers is in the evening, just as the sun is setting, when they are at their most fragrant. They are then quickly extracted to obtain high-quality fragrant perfumes.

What does Tuberose smell like in perfumery?

In perfumery, tuberose is famous for its intense scent. It is generally classified in the floral olfactory family. Tuberose releases rich, floral, green, milky, fruity, and animalic notes, often described as narcotic. Its fragrance can also be slightly spicy.

Why does Tuberose smell good?

Tuberose owes its enchanting fragrance to its complex chemical composition. It contains scented compounds such as methyl anthranilate, methyl iso eugenol etc., which contribute to its floral, heady, and spicy fragrance. It has many molecules in common with other white flowers such as orange blossom. Furthermore, tuberose also contains volatile molecules which diffuse into the air, reinforcing its powerful fragrance in perfumes.
