About Iris Perfumes

The iris, a noble flower par excellence, belongs to the Iridaceae family. Native to the Far East, there are approximately 210 species of iris, mainly cultivated in Italy, Morocco, and China. In perfumery, its roots, called rhizomes, are prized. They release a subtle and complex scent, at once powdery, woody, and earthy, with a slight hint of violet. This sweet yet powerful fragrance is reminiscent of the iris powder once used in cosmetics.

What makes iris particularly unique is its ability to improve over time. Unlike other raw materials, its fragrance intensifies as it ages. Extracting its essence takes several years: the roots must first mature in the ground for three years, then dry for another three years before they can be distilled. In total, it takes approximately seven years to obtain an iris extract.

Thus, once distilled, iris becomes one of the most noble and precious raw materials in luxury perfumery. It is used in the composition of unisex, feminine and masculine fragrances, bringing an elegant and persistent touch, which extends into the base notes of the perfumed creations.
