What is a cologne?
The story goes that these fresh waters popular among both men and women were invented by the Italian Giovanni Paolo Feminis in Cologne.
These refreshingly fragrant alcoholic lotions, made from herbs and citrus fruits such as lemon, bergamot and mandarin, were more of a medicine than a refined fragrance at the time. This miraculous water was used for its tonic effects.
Today, they are faceted with woody and musky notes to give us more depth, contrast and hold.
What does orange blossom smell like?
The orange flower has thousand faces... It can have floral, green, sweet but also powdery notes. In the 001, it is its very soft floral facet that we find. Very appreciated, it reminds us of the first soft summer evenings, the scented gardens and the smell of baby. A bubble of sweetness!
What does the petit grain smell like?
Olfactory, it is a note both green, like a plant and flowery, like the orange blossom. Not surprising since its essence is extracted from the stems and leaves of the Bitter Orange tree. The perfumer uses it here to accentuate the orange blossom.
What does bergamot smell like?
Bergamot is fresh, sometimes green, sometimes floral and fruity. Used in the top notes, it offers an incomparable and sparkling start. Most of them come from Calabria in Italy and reveal different notes depending on the parcels where they come from, fresher in the south and more flowery in the north. It's a bit like wine, where the terroir plays an important role! The time of the harvest also plays a role, green and zesty at the beginning of the season, they are more fruity at the end.
How do you manage to offer more affordable niche fragrances?
The answer is simple: less margin and products made with local suppliers. Everything is in the ingredients, the creation and the bottle! Local manufacturing allows us to minimize transportation costs while fully valuing French know-how. We thus set up a virtuous circuit between the perfumer and the friends of the House.
Do your perfumes last long on the skin?
Yes, we have chosen to offer all our creations in Eau de Parfum, which is more concentrated than Eau de Toilette. When talking about the lastingness of a perfume, we must also take into account the skin's pH level. A perfume will last in a different way from one person to another.
To know more about the different concentrations, read our perfume guide.
Do your perfumes contain synthetic ingredients?
Our fragrances have been developed to contain between 82% and 99% ingredients of natural origin. They have been carefully selected to meet the strictest health and safety standards. Our perfumers always look for the best natural ingredients, as long as these raw materials are non-allergenic and the extraction of their essence respects our planet and is possible.
Our perfumes are therefore clean and sustainable. If you want to know more about our clean fragrances, discover our commitments.
What is a top note, a heart note, a base note?
Perfumes are designed according to an olfactory pyramid:
- Top notes: These are the first scents you smell when you spray a perfume. They are often quite fresh and evaporate quite quickly on your skin (a few minutes).
- Heart notes: They appear as the head evaporates. They will stay with you for a few hours.
- The base notes: This is the scent that you smell at the end of the day and that is absorbed by your clothes. It includes less volatile raw materials such as woods. Want to know more? Find our guide to know everything about the different types of notes.
What is the best way to apply perfume?
The fragrance lasts longer on the pulse points of your body. These can be the neck, the hollow behind the ear, the wrists. Some people prefer a few sprays on clothing.
