What does the word "coconut" mean?

The word "coconut" derives from the combination of the terms "coco" and "nut". "Nut" comes from the Latin "nux", meaning "nut" or "nutty fruit", and "coco" is derived from the Portuguese "coco" or Spanish "coco", meaning the fruit itself. The term "coconut" refers to the hard-shelled tropical fruit with white flesh, widely known for its sweet, refreshing flavor.
