Our gourmand perfume
Our haute parfumerie collection does not yet include marshmallow fragrances, but we can offer you a collection of gourmand perfumes like the the eau de parfum 501: a reminiscence of childhood pleasures around praline and licorice.
In the beginning..
Marshmallow is a delicacy that has spanned the centuries. Often associated with childhood, campfire evenings and funfairs, marshmallows evoke warm and comforting memories. A gourmand, mellow, sweet, and carefree fragrance.
The making of marshmallow in perfumery
In perfumery, the olfactory note of marshmallow is created by carefully thought-out synthetic components, which are then brought together to best replicate the characteristic aromas of this sweet treat. The success of the marshmallow accord lies in the balance between the sweet and soft facets. The marshmallow note is an accord built around natural and synthetic raw materials, including orange blossom, vanilla, vanillin, ethyl maltol, and other gourmand ingredients.
What do you know about marshmallows in perfumery?
Gourmand perfumes, such as marshmallows, have been an olfactory trend since the 90s. We owe this to the success of Angel by Thierry Mugler, a fragrance known for its cotton candy accords. Marshmallow notes are often found in the heart or base notes of perfume. They blend particularly well with woody or floral notes, which contrast the marshmallow’s gourmand and soft facets of marshmallow. The fragrance is often evocative of memories, offering an olfactory journey back to childhood.
Famous marshmallow perfumes
Marshmallow notes are found in various perfume collections and on different product types (eau de toilette, eau de parfum, and men’s and women’s perfumes, particularly in niche perfumes) cosmetics, perfume oil, home fragrances and skincare (creams, shower gels).
These marshmallow-based compositions are mainly for women, although there are also unisex marshmallow-based perfumes and eaux de toilette. Here’s a selection of famous perfumes featuring this sweet note:
Guimauve by Reminiscence : This eau de parfum for women is part of the collection “Les Notes Gourmandes” by Reminiscence.
The top notes of bergamot, rosemary and mint provide a fresh and aromatic opening. The heart notes of orange blossom and jasmine are surprising and bring the soft and smooth effect of marshmallow. Finally, the marshmallow note is confirmed by the base notes of vanilla, tonka bean and musk.
Bonbon by Victor & Rolf: As its name suggests, this eau de parfum is a true confection, featuring marshmallow accord alongside notes of caramel and citrus. The gourmand caramel and marshmallow accords are paired here with floral and woody notes. This smooth, exquisite women’s fragrance has been adapted into a summer version called “Bonbon Spring Summer” Eau de toilette with predominantly caramel and fruity notes.
Love don’t be shy, by Killian: This perfume combines marshmallow and orange blossom. This combination offers a sweet, honeyed, gourmand accord.
Guimauve de Noël by Parle Moi de Parfum: Like Proust’s Madeleine, this fragrance offers a regressive accord of marshmallow combined with spicy and floral notes for a real return to childhood. This unisex composition allows both men and women to wrap themselves in softness.
This eau de parfum has also been transformed into a candle to offer a soft, comforting olfactory ambience, thus completing the range of floral marshmallow home fragrances. Some children’s fragrances feature gourmand accords such as marshmallow, but these are most often interpreted as eau de cologne. Given the popularity of gourmand fragrances, perfumers are exploring new ways of incorporating sweet notes in their creations.
At Bon Parfumeur, we don't have yet marshmallow scent but our most gourmand perfume is the 501. Made up of praline and licorice notes, it is comforting and regressive. A gourmand top note of green fresh hazelnut enhanced by citrus. A crunchy and praline heart. At the heart, iris counterbalances the fragrance and retains the dessert aspect. A coulis of musks and licorice at the base. Woody notes of patchouli.
The 203 and its vanilla notes holds its own, giving you a warm, gourmand scent. A syrupy and sweet note with red fruits and pear. At the heart, a strong rose and jasmine. A snow effect with the powdery vanilla covering the fragrance.
These gourmand fragrances have been very trendy since the 90s and continue to be popular in the perfume market. These notes are a safe bet for gift ideas and bring a beautiful olfactory universe of softness and comfort!
